The primary source of revenue however, is advertising fees. MySpace has reported that for fiscal year 2008, revenues topped 800 million dollars. Not bad for a place that offers you the chance to hook up with friends free!

Thousands are trying to capture a piece of the pie, as social networking sites begin to pop up all over the internet! You’ll have a very hard time not finding one that you want to join! Some of the social networking sites online today are even paying their users based on their activity on the site!

Of course, starting a blog network is not quite as simple as it sounds. Before you do this, make sure that you ask yourself the three questions below.

1. Do I have the time to handle more than one blog? Owning more than one blog is simple, but updating the content and marketing each one is anything but. If you are going to start a blog network, you need to make sure that you have the time to devote to each site. Remember, if you do not put time into making each blog a success, you cannot expect to see any return in the way of profits.

2. What topics are you going to use in building your blog network? Many people decide to stay in the niche that they are comfortable with, whereas other want to mix things up a bit. For instance, you may have a blog on internet marketing. If this is the case, you could decide to start another blog on offline marketing tips. Or, you could move away from this topic altogether and start blogging about sports. This is a very important detail to consider if you are going to start or expand a blog network.

3. Do I feel comfortable hiring help if need be? If your new blog network becomes a success, there is going to be a time when you need to hire help to assist with content creation, design, customer service, and other details. While you may not have to deal with this early on, over time it could become reality.

By answering the three questions above, you will have a better idea as to what it takes to start and run a blog network. If you think that you are up for it, there is nothing wrong with starting a few new blogs and seeing where it takes you. On the other hand, if you are having any doubts, you will want to sure up your plan before moving forward.
